February 25, 2005
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting began at 1:45 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present were Supervisors Naomi Decker, Larry Lambert, Don Lerew, John Shambaugh, Road Master Gary Ocker, Secretary Linda Hansen.
ORDER OF BUSINESS
Today’s discussion was on the purchase of a Freightliner Truck.
Larry Lambert stated he has a problem with some of the options. He feels we need a basic truck.
Fred Pawlowski, the sales representative from Berman Freightliner, was present. Mr. Pawlowski stated trucks are custom made for each customer’s needs. He has been working with Trucks for 36 years. The specifications listed on the truck he quoted are what other municipalities similar to Franklin Township purchased on a truck. His mark up on the truck is $1,490.00 over cost due to the PACC contract. The prices are dependent on option content. Dropping options may not necessarily take much off the cost of the truck.
Dropping options and then adding at a later date would cost much more than to put the option on the truck when it is being built. Only one of the township trucks has the towing option. Having a second with the towing option would give a back up if the other truck is not running.
Larry Lambert has a problem with the compression brakes. Mr. Pawlowski said these brakes are an alternate braking source. This Mercedes brake is not loud like other compression brakes and allows the other brakes to last 3 times longer.
Larry Lambert and Don Lerew left the meeting early.
Fred Pawlowski said there are components that make the right truck for each customer. The equipment listed on the quote is for a 20 year truck that has the ability to do all the jobs a small municipality does.
John Shambaugh wanted to know if Fred has a truck similar to the truck the township would order and if he could bring it to the township building. Fred does not know if he could find a truck within the next couple weeks. He has a truck that is slightly bigger with a different front end. Mr. Pawlowski will check to see who has a truck with similar specifications.
Berman Freightliner will have trucks at the PSATS Convention in April.
The township red dump truck is worth about $2500 - $3500 if it is bid out. Mr. Pawlowski stated having employees that take care of equipment allow you to have a 20 year truck.
